Let me be real with you for a moment…writing a book is hard. Not just the act of writing (that’s actually the fun part) but all of the other “stuff” that goes with it. Editing, re-reading for the 20th time, editing some more, finding the right pictures to go with a teaser, creating the cover, marketing the book…. you get my point.
It’s been almost a year for me since I released my first book and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. But I’m going to tell you, I’ve had many days that I lacked motivation. I’m married with 3 kids and work a full-time job, and there are days that I am just done. As in D-O-N-E.
However, I can’t sit back and expect my books to sell themselves. I have to engage and market and somedays I struggle with this. I’ve met some wonderful people along this journey, published 2 books, and it’s all because I’ve disciplined myself to take time. Some days, I need to take time away from “author me” to spend with my family. And some days, I have to give myself a pep talk to open up my computer, find a quiet place in my house, and start writing words.
Discipline can extend to many areas of our lives. Find your balance and find your motivation in whatever you need that extra push to do.
